Easy Weekly House Cleaning Schedule You Can *Actually* Stick To

This is the ultimate weekly house cleaning schedule that will keep your home looking squeaky clean, even in life’s messier seasons. Because you deserve to have a clean space you can thrive in.

weekly house cleaning schedule

We’ve all seen those aesthetic cleaning videos on Instagram and TikTok, where everything gets organized in a perfectly edited time lapse (heck, I’ve even made those videos myself!) But in reality, house cleaning is not so picture-perfect.

You might find a few minutes to tidy your space, but before you know it, your favorite accent chair is buried below a pile of clothing (which you swear are clean), dust is accumulating on every surface, and the stain you could’ve sworn you removed is seeping deeper into your rug.

Sound familiar?

If you’re nodding your head, you’re not alone. I’ve been in the cleaning trenches myself, overwhelmed by the endless cycle of clutter and wondering how other women keep their homes pristine while juggling work, kids, pets, hobbies, and everything in between.

Here’s the truth: creating a weekly house cleaning schedule isn’t about dedicating hours to household chores.

It’s about creating sustainable routines that elevate your home and fit your lifestyle. So let’s turn household chores into manageable moments we can actually look forward to. Shocking, I know. Here is my go-to weekly house cleaning schedule that will change how you experience your home.

The Biggest Cleaning Pitfall (And How to Avoid It)

Most cleaning schedules start with the best intentions, but never last. And here’s why: they’re either too strict or too time-consuming. They exist in a vacuum, completely immune to schedule changes, competing priorities, or personal needs.

Between my professional and personal life, I can barely find a few spare minutes for myself, let alone a few hours to clean each week. Who else can relate?

But that’s why this weekly house cleaning schedule is different. It’s built for the realities of daily life. It recognizes that some weeks you’ll crush your to-do list, and others you’ll barely manage the essentials. And that’s okay.

This approach focuses on progress over perfection. It’s about creating sustainable habits that work with your schedule, not against it.

Your *Surprisingly Easy* Weekly House Cleaning Schedule

Say goodbye to marathon cleaning sessions and hello to a sustainable, enjoyable cleaning routine that fits even the busiest schedule. Put on your comfy sweatpants, queue your favorite playlist (Taylor Swift, always), and set the timer for 30 minutes. Yup, that’s all it takes.

Cleaning Product Disclaimer

I hate buying things twice. So, most of the cleaning products I mention in this guide are reusable, sustainable alternatives to the products we grew up using. I’m on a mission to do away with single-use products, but I’m still a work in progress. If you have any tried and tested sustainable swaps we should all try, let us know in the comments!

Monday: Kitchen Speed Clean

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and also the source of some pretty gnarly messes. So, let’s use the energy from the weekend to clean the messiest (and most important) room of the house.

Cleaning Supplies

  1. Duster: This 20-inch-long, flexible dusting machine cleans even the hardest-to-reach places. When you’re done, throw the cover in the washing machine, and it’ll be ready for your next cleaning session.
  2. All-Purpose Cleaner: I converted to Blueland one year ago and haven’t looked back since. It’s great quality, great price, and great for the planet.
  3. Sealed Stone Cleaner: This is a must-have for granite, marble, or sealed stone countertops. The scent is minimal and the shine is major.
  4. Glass Cleaner: This is just as good as the Sprayaway glass cleaner, but way better for the planet.
  5. Stainless Steel Cleaner: The best for a streak-less, sparkling finish. If you love lavender essential oils, add this to your kitchen supplies toolkit asap.
  6. Hypochlorous Spray: Kills 99.99% of viruses and bacteria, minus the harmful chemicals. A must for kitchen sinks and germy areas.
  7. Microfiber Cloths: Gentle enough to use on all kitchen surfaces, streak-free finish, and machine washable. Win-winwin!
  8. Papaya Reusable Towels: Reusable, multi-functional, and odorless. Need I say more?
  9. Dry & Wet Mop: My favorite power couple, all in one. The covers are machine-washable, and always come out of the wash looking brand new (even after a year of consistent use).
  10. Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner: The best-smelling natural floor cleaner, perfect for hardwood, tile, concrete and linoleum floors.
  11. Vacuum: Use corded for bigger messes or cordless for a quick clean. Check out my favorites from both categories below!
  12. Gloves: Who says cleaning gear can’t be comfortable? These rubber gloves include a cotton liner to keep your hands comfy and dry. Perfect for quick cleans or longer cleaning sessions.

Cleaning Checklist

  • Dust: Use a flexible duster to clean your cabinet fronts, countertops, light fixtures, and appliances, starting from the top of the room and working your way down.
  • Clean & Disinfect: Use an all-purpose cleaner and a papaya towel to remove dirt, grease, and grime from your surfaces. Then, switch to a hypochlorous spray to disinfect your sink, working areas, and eating areas.
  • Shine & Polish: Use your glass cleaner and a microfiber towel to clean the windows, glass, and even the countertops (this will really make them shine!) Switch to a stainless steel cleaner to polish your appliances. For non-stainless steel appliances, use an all-purpose cleaner.
  • Purge: Toss expired fridge and pantry items.
  • Finish with Floors: Vacuum the floors, then use the dry mop to pick up smaller particles that the vacuum missed (dust, allergens, pet hair etc.) I can’t emphasize enough how important this step is. Switch to the wet mop attachment and use a non-toxic floor cleaner and mop bucket to give your floors one final clean.

Set the timer for 30 minutes and move through the steps at your own pace. You’d be surprised how much you can get done in a brief, focused time period. And trust me, time flies when you’re jamming out to your favorite artist or listening intently to a podcast episode (speaking from experience!)

Tuesday: Time to Tidy

The only thing worse than a cluttered schedule is a cluttered home. Let’s switch gears to a more manageable cleaning session with my favorite: Tuesday Tidy.

Cleaning Supplies

  1. Duster
  2. Vacuum

Cleaning Checklist:

  1. Take a lap through your home’s high-traffic areas (this might be the dining room, living room, family room, mudroom, or entryway) and put things back where they belong.
  2. Fluff the sofa cushions and pillows.
  3. Fold and put away stray blankets, toys, and games.
  4. Finish off with a quick dusting and vacuuming in the areas that need it most.

Make your Tuesday Tidy even easier by establishing the one-touch rule in your home. Once you’ve touched something, put it back where it belongs. Paper towel roll? Back in the holder. Knitted blanket? Back in the basket. Coloring book? Back in the toy box.

Ok, you get the idea. The one-touch rule is not a foolproof plan, but once you and your family get in the habit of returning items to their designated homes, your weekly tidy routine will become much easier.

Wednesday: Bathroom Refresh

Let’s kill two birds with one stone. Gather all your bathroom towels, bath mats, and bath robes and throw them in the wash. While that’s running, grab your bathroom cleaning supplies and give your bathroom a once-over. Here’s what you’ll need for both tasks, starting with the laundry:

W&D Toolkit

Most of the products below are the same ones we used in the kitchen, so you can use the same cleaning caddy for both spaces.

Cleaning Supplies:

  1. Laundry Tablets: If you haven’t tried these plastic-free, fragrance-free, and hypoallergenic laundry tablets, this is your sign to make the switch.
  2. Stain Remover Boost: This cleaning powerhouse gives your whites and colors a boost without the harsh chemicals.
  3. Dryer Sheets (for Pet Households): A lifesaver for homes filled with pet hair. These dryer sheets turn your bedding, towels, and clothing into pet hair repellents after 4-5 washes. Just give them a shake and the hairs will fly off!
  4. Dryer Balls: Ethically sourced dryer balls made from New Zealand wool. These bad boys reduce drying time dramatically end last up to five years!
  5. Laundry Bags: I use these bags every time I do laundry to protect my delicate items, and they have never failed me!
  6. Bathroom Spray Cleaner: All-in-one cleaning machine that removes mold, mildew, and grime from bathroom surfaces.
  7. Squeegee: This squeegee and microfiber power duo is my go-to for a streak-free finish. Perfect for bathroom mirrors and shower enclosures.
  8. Spin Scrubber: My tile, grout, and bathtub never looked this good before I switched to an electric scrubber. It has eight different attachments for a range of surfaces, plus an extender to clean hard-to-reach areas.

  10. Glass Cleaner
  11. Hypochlorous Spray
  12. Microfiber Cloths

Cleaning Checklist:

  1. Dirty Laundry: Throw your towels, bath mats, and bath robes in the laundry using one laundry tablet per load, and a scoop of oxi booster, as needed.
  2. Dust: While the laundry is running, use a flexible duster to clean your bathroom surfaces, starting from the top of the room and working your way down.
  3. Clean & Disinfect: Use the bathroom cleaner and a spin scrubber to remove mold, mildew, and grime from the bathroom surfaces, including the shower and tub. Then, switch to a hypochlorous acid spray and microfiber towel to disinfect your toilet and sink.
  4. Shine & Polish: Use your glass cleaner and squeegee to clean the windows, glass, and vanity countertops. Then switch to the microfiber cover and give those areas a once-over for a streak-free finish.
  5. Purge: Take out the bathroom trash and put a fresh trash bag in the canister.
  6. Floors: Vacuum the floors, then use the dry mop to pick up smaller particles that the vacuum missed. Switch to the wet mop attachment and use a non-toxic floor cleaner and mop bucket to give your floors one final clean.
  7. Clean Laundry: Move your laundry to the dryer and add a few dryer balls or dryer sheets (for pet households). Once the load is complete, return the towels, bath mats, and bath robes to their homes.

Elevate Your Bathroom Smell

To enhance the smell in your bathroom, add a cotton ball with a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the bottom of your trash bin.

If I learned anything over my years of curating the perfect cleaning routine, it’s this: Invest in quality cleaning supplies. A lightweight vacuum, quality microfiber towels, and comfortable rubber gloves make cleaning faster and more enjoyable.

Thursday: Bedrooms & Bedsheets

It’s time to give your bedrooms some love. Wash your sheets, clean your surfaces, and create a retreat you can’t wait to spend time in at the end of a long day.

Cleaning Supplies:

  1. Laundry Tablets

  3. Dryer Sheets (for Pet Households)
  4. Dryer Balls
  5. Duster
  6. All-Purpose Cleaner
  7. Papaya Reusable Towels

Cleaning Checklist:

  1. Dirty Laundry: Throw the bedsheets, duvet covers, and bed blankets in the laundry using one laundry tablet per load, and a scoop of oxi booster, as needed.
  2. Dust: While the laundry is running, clear your nightstands and use a flexible duster to clean your bedroom surfaces, starting from the top of the room and working your way down.
  3. Clean & Disinfect: Use the all-purpose cleaner and a papaya towel to remove dirt, grease, and grime from the bedroom surfaces.
  4. Clean Laundry: Move your laundry to the dryer and add a few dryer balls or dryer sheets (for pet households). Once the load is complete, fold and put everything away so it doesn’t accumulate.

Friday: Finish with Floors

Before we jump into weekend mode, let’s clean and deodorize the floors!

Cleaning Supplies:

  1. Vacuum
  2. Dry & Wet Mop
  3. Baking Soda
  4. Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner

Floor toolkit

CLeaning Checklist:

  1. Start by deodorizing your carpets and rugs. Sprinkle baking soda all over your soft surfaces (a light layer will do), and let it sit for at least 15-20 minutes. This will help neutralize any stinky odors.
  2. While the baking powder marinates, vacuum the non-carpet floors, starting with the areas that need it most. If this job is too big for one cleaning session, break it up over the next two days, which have a lighter cleaning schedule.
  3. Dry mop next! Again, this step is essential for picking up all the tiny particles the vacuum missed.
  4. Switch to a clean mop attachment and use your floor cleaner and mop bucket to clean the non-carpet floors.
  5. After 15-20 minutes, vacuum the baking soda off the carpet and rugs for a clean finish.

Create Cleaning Stations

Reduce your cleaning time by creating cleaning stations around your house. This could be a linen closet, a caddy tucked in a cabinet, or maybe a cleaning cart stowed away in your bedroom closet. The idea is to keep your supplies accessible to remove any excuse not to clean.

Saturday: Ventilate & Refresh

Keep Saturday light and prioritize you time and family time.

The only tasks on the agenda are ventilating and refreshing your home. If the weather permits, open windows around your house to circulate fresh air. Make a bouquet of fresh flowers or diffuse your favorite essential oil to curate the perfect weekend vibe.

Sunday: Prep & Plan

Sunday is all about setting yourself up for a successful week, whatever that looks like for you. Do a quick tidy of the high-traffic areas (following the Tuesday Tidy schedule) and prep what you can for Monday. Set out cleaning supplies, plan meals, or just do a mental walkthrough of your week ahead.

Creating Calm in Every Corner

The end goal here isn’t to maintain a picture-perfect home. It’s about creating a clean, safe environment that you can enjoy in all seasons of life. It’s about reducing stress amid the chaos of a busy schedule, instead of promoting it.

Start where you are, use what you have, and be kind to yourself along the way. Your future self (and your home) will thank you.

This post is all about creating a weekly house cleaning schedule that actually works for real life.
